The Royal Pro-Am As mentioned in last week's newsletter I was fortunate to be invited to play at Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham and what an unbelievable experience it was. Having been luckily enough to play Birkdale a number of times, my team (From Hornsea) and I were leaders in the clubhouse after day one on 13-under-par, one shot clear of three teams lying in second and a 4-over-par round for the individual pro's prize. With the team in good spirits and a good breakfast from the members balcony at Royal Lytham (had to pinch myself) we were off at 9:40am, determined to match our score at Birkdale. We got to the turn with a steady 6-under-par and having not dropped a shot in 27 holes we dropped two on 10 at Lytham, probably the easiest hole of the two days! The team kept hopes alive and posted a score of -8 leaving us with the clubhouse lead on -21. I was well behind in the pro's individual scores, but managed to post a round off +2 leaving me on 6-over-par for the two rounds which I m pretty satisfied with considering the nature of the two beasts and my lack of competitive golf in the last 18 months. We were sat for a good three hours on the members' terrace waiting to find out our teams efforts only to be pipped in from one of the last groups beating us by two shots, leaving us lying out right second. Nevertheless a great experiance and one I will remember for a lifetime. |
