Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week sees us take a look at how Kevin Kisner bounced back from disappointment at the WGC Match Play, explain (with an example) why you should never jump the gun with your playing partner, and we have a brilliant Video of the Week as some of the game's best golfers attempt to recreate a Monty special. Enjoy the read! |

Beacon Cup The winner of the Beacon Cup this week was Jonathon Jarvis with a great score of 42 points! In second place was Keith Stephenson who beat Derek Robinson on countback having both had 40 points, great scores for the first tournament of the year! |
Jimmy Dean Trophy We had a tie for first place in this competition, meaning a playoff is required! Both Alan Scargill and Mark Wicks had 42 points. This was followed up by someone who I have been working with over the last few months, Ian Elliot who had a great round of 40 points. |
Winter OOM - Race to Fulford Final Winner The top ten and myself all travelled to Fulford on Friday to play the final. It was a fantastic day and the weather was great! The winner on the day was Mick Campbell but the overall winner of the whole competition was Martin Catt, a fitting winner I think we can all say he led the standings almost all the way through and had John Simpson in pursuit of him the whole time and just coming up short. |
I’d like to personally thank everyone who played in the winter castle competitions, it gave us all a little something to play for over the winter and was tipped off perfectly by the fantastic finishing day at Fulford, and I even got a little sun burnt and the Morreti wasn’t bad either! I really enjoyed playing with the members and it’s something I’ll be looking to do more of in captain and pro charity challenges matches and much more.
Summer is upon us which will then mean the castle will now be played on Tuesdays throughout the summer months!

Sergio gets some lip... If you ever needed a lesson in not jumping the gun and sticking to the rules, Sergio Garcia showed us all what not to do over the weekend. Playing against Matt Kuchar in the quarter-final of the WGC Match Play Championship, the Spaniard's makeable putt to win the 7th hole finished inches wide of the mark. But rather than waiting for Kuchar to concede the putt, Garcia took matters into his own hands and it didn't end well. Watch this video to see what happened. |

If at first you don’t succeed… 12-months ago, American Kevin Kisner woke up on the Monday after the WGC Match Play Championship nursing the disappointment of a thumping 7&6 final round loss to Bubba Watson. However, this Monday, the mood in the Kisner camp was quite different after the 35-year-old overcame fellow American Matt Kuchar 3&2 to win his first WGC title and stake a major claim for a Ryder Cup berth ahead of next year's contest at Whistling Straits. Victories over Tony Finau, Keith Mitchell, Ian Poulter (in a playoff), Haotong Li, Louis Oosthuizen and Francesco Molinari proved Kisner has the ability to go toe-to-toe with the world's elite - maybe he should have been at Le Golf National last year? The wonders of hindsight. A world-first at the Jordan Mixed Open... This week sees the start of a revolutionary new tournament, where 40 players from each of the Ladies European Tour, Challenge Tour and StaySure Tour (over 50s) will compete against each other for one trophy and the same prize fund. The likes of Carly Booth, Jarmo Sandelin and Phillip Price will tee it up over three rounds in a tournament that is sure to snatch the headlines. Keep an eye on next week's newsletter for our report. |
Boa constrict your footwear |
There's been two major trends in the golf footwear market in recent years: the first is the surge in spikeless shoes, and the other is Boa. So, what actually is the Boa Fit System and is it anything to do with snakes? |
| FootJoy UltraFIT Boa golf shoe
|
|
No, it's nothing to do with snakes. Phew. Rather, the Boa Fit System has revolutionized footwear for the better and we absolutely love it. Instead of using traditional laces, Boa utilises a steel wire (virtually unbreakable) that is effortlessly tightened via an easy-to-use dial strategically placed on the shoe (seen above). To loosen, simply pull out the dial and open up at the tongue. |
With FootJoy's UltraFIT Boa, which is available in-store now, you will be guaranteed a comfortable fit every time safe in the knowledge that your laces will not come undone or get tangled throughout your round. If you haven’t already experienced Boa, then we implore you to come down to the store and try on this fantastic option today - no obligation. |
